Overview and Gameplay
Activision Anthology presents 56 Atari 2600 games and programs through an early-1980s bedroom menu. The cartridge rack opens classics such as Pitfall!, River Raid, H.E.R.O., Kaboom!, Enduro, and Keystone Kapers, alongside homebrew releases, prototypes, and previously unreleased software. Each title keeps its own rules, scoring, lives, rounds, and difficulty settings. Saved records track high scores, while specific performance targets award digital versions of Activision’s original achievement patches.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad emulates the Atari joystick, and the A button serves as its single action button, with exact uses changing by game. Built-in manuals explain each title’s objectives and controls. The pause menu provides records, patch requirements, help, and virtual console-switch options. Compatible games support two-player competition through a single-cartridge Game Link Cable, with both participants watching Player 1’s screen.
Version Notes
The Game Boy Advance edition uses a dedicated 56-item library and handheld interface. Its archival selections include Kabobber, Thwocker, two unnamed Activision prototypes, seven homebrew games, and the Venetian Blinds technology demonstration.
