Overview and Gameplay
Advance Wars follows an Orange Star tactical adviser through a campaign against rival armies across grid-based battlefields. Each mission requires the player to destroy every enemy unit, capture the opposing headquarters, or complete a special objective.
Armies include infantry, tanks, artillery, aircraft, transports, and naval units. Campaign missions unlock additional Commanding Officers and routes, while Field Training teaches the rules. War Room maps focus on repeatable high scores, and Design Maps allows custom battlefields.
Controls And Mechanics
Units move according to terrain and movement type, then attack, capture properties, transport allies, or wait. Cities and production facilities generate funds, while bases, airports, and ports build new units. Fuel, ammunition, health, vision, terrain defense, and weapon range affect each engagement.
Commanding Officers provide unit strengths, weaknesses, and rechargeable CO Powers. Mission ranks measure Speed, Power, and Technique. Multiplayer supports alternating turns on one system and two-to-four-player Game Link Cable battles, including configurable team matches.
Version Notes
This Revision 1 release includes a minor correction to random terrain generation in Design Maps.
