Overview and Gameplay
Altered Beast: Guardian of the Realms follows the resurrected warrior Antonius as he recovers stolen Realm Gate keys and confronts Arcanon. Fifteen side-scrolling realms contain enemy waves, hazards, hidden talismans, and boss battles. The Hall of Realms serves as a stage-selection hub, and completed areas can be replayed to find missed upgrades. Collecting Spirit Balls increases Antonius’s strength and eventually transforms him into the beast assigned to that realm.
Controls And Mechanics
Antonius can walk, crouch, jump, perform uppercuts, and use standing or low punches and kicks. Ten principal transformations include werewolf, dragon, shark, rhinoceros, scorpion, eagle, and Chimera forms, each with different attacks or movement abilities. Hidden talismans unlock enhanced versions of these beasts. Breakable objects and defeated enemies can reveal extra lives, continues, temporary magic effects, and transformation upgrades. Game Link support enables a simultaneous two-player cooperative campaign and a competitive Brawl Mode for up to four participants, with one cartridge required for each system.
