Overview and Gameplay
Gradius Galaxies sends the Vic Viper to Ramiles, where a Bacterion weapon has transformed the planet into a hostile fortress. The campaign spans eight side-scrolling stages, including glass structures, volcanic caverns, Moai defenses, organic terrain, and a mechanical stronghold. Easy, Normal, and Hard settings adjust the challenge, while Continue and Hint options become available for stages already reached.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves the Vic Viper, B fires shots and missiles, and A activates the highlighted power-up. Red capsules advance the power meter, while blue capsules clear enemies and hostile shots from the screen. Four weapon configurations provide different missile, secondary-fire, laser, Option, and defensive arrangements.
Speed Up can be selected five times, several weapons have two power levels, and up to four Options duplicate the ship’s attacks. Shield protects the front of the craft, while Force Field surrounds it. Scores from continued runs do not qualify for the one-credit high-score table.
Version Notes
The game was released as Gradius Advance in Europe and Gradius Generation in Japan. The later Japanese edition added bonus Challenge missions.
