Overview and Gameplay

Guilty Gear X Advance Edition follows a tournament formed around a bounty on Dizzy, a powerful Gear capable of acting independently. Fourteen fighters are initially available, while Testament and Dizzy become playable after they are defeated.

Arcade mode presents eight regular opponents followed by Testament and Dizzy. Survival continues through successive battles with partial health recovery and stronger Daredevil challengers. Training provides a configurable practice opponent. Tag Match uses two-fighter teams, while 3 on 3 runs as an elimination battle between teams of three.

Controls And Mechanics

The directional pad handles movement, crouching, jumping, blocking, and special-move inputs. Punch, Kick, Slash, and Heavy Slash support normal attacks, throws, Dust launchers, Overdrives, and character-specific techniques.

The Tension Gauge powers Overdrives, Roman Cancels, Faultless Defense, Dead Angle Attacks, and team switches. Roman Cancels interrupt an action to extend a combo. Destroy Moves can immediately win a round, but a failed attempt removes access to Tension-based abilities for the rest of that round.

Two-player matches use simultaneous competitive play through a Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable.

Version Notes

This handheld adaptation adds Tag Match, 3 on 3 battles, palette editing, unlockable alternate move sets, and selectable three-button or four-button control layouts.
