Overview and Gameplay

Monster Gate sends a chosen adventurer into randomized dungeons and castles to recover gems, collect cards, and seal the gates. Each expedition begins at level 1, while defeated monsters raise HP, MP, and attack power for the current run.

Every movement, attack, spell, or wait consumes one turn, followed by enemy actions. Cards provide healing, magic, movement effects, and monster summons. Quest mode unlocks a sequence of dungeons, World mode centers on capturing and defending castles, and Time Trial records completion times on cleared stages.

Controls And Mechanics

The directional pad moves the character and selects commands. A attacks, confirms, or waits by striking an empty square. B cancels, changes facing without movement, and displays nearby monster health. L selects magic, R assists diagonal movement, Start creates a suspend save, and Select modifies the map display with L or R.

Entering an unexplored room restores HP and MP. Summoned monsters remain active for 100 steps, while matching monster cards can create upgraded forms. Game Link Cable battles support competitive play for up to four participants.

Version Notes

This edition applies an unofficial English fan-translation patch labeled version 0.01 to the Japanese release. The Game Boy Advance adaptation adds cartridge-based progression, character classes, castle conquest, time trials, and link battles to Konami’s arcade concept.
