Overview and Gameplay
Shang Tsung and Quan Chi form the Deadly Alliance and seek to revive the Dragon King’s ancient army. Earthrealm’s fighters enter Outworld to stop them through a series of one-on-one matches.
Arcade mode advances through computer-controlled opponents and awards Koins toward character endings and unlocks. Survival mode continues until the fighter loses a match. The Krypt spends Koins to open koffins containing fighters, arenas, alternate palettes, and other secrets.
Controls And Mechanics
Each fighter has two selectable fighting styles that change normal attacks and combo routes. Combat uses directional movement around the opponent, blocks, throws, special moves, juggling, and a character-specific Fatality after a victory. A standard match is won by taking two rounds before the timer expires or by reducing the opponent’s health to zero.
Test Your Might challenges rapid shoulder-button presses, while Test Your Sight asks the player to follow a marked cup through a shuffle. Both mini-games award Koins. Two-player versus mode uses a Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable, two systems, and two cartridges. Profile-based matches can include a Koin wager awarded to the winner.
Version Notes
This handheld adaptation uses sprite-based fighters, 12 playable characters, 13 arenas, and two fighting styles per character. The North American cartridge supports English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian.
