Overview and Gameplay
Tony Hawk’s Underground follows a customizable teenage skater working from local challenges toward the professional circuit. Story Mode sends the skater through ten isometric areas, where marked characters assign score targets, trick tasks, races, collection goals, and competitions. Completing objectives earns money, opens new sections, improves skating statistics, and unlocks professional skaters.
Arcade Mode gives each unlocked professional a separate set of timed goals, while Free Skate allows unrestricted practice in available stages.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad controls speed, steering, rotations, manuals, and balance. B crouches and releases into an ollie. A performs grinds, wallrides, and lip tricks. L selects flip tricks and nollie stance, while R controls grabs, switch stance, and reverts.
Successful tricks build the special meter and extend combos through manuals, grinds, reverts, and short on-foot run-outs. Repeating the same trick reduces its score. Bails remove health, while protective gear absorbs damage and consumable items restore health.
Two-player play includes alternating H.O.R.S.E. and Trick Attack on one system. Game Link Cable modes support simultaneous Trick Attack, King of the Hill, Tag, Scavenger, and checkpoint-based Cart Racing.
Version Notes
The Game Boy Advance edition uses a fixed isometric viewpoint, polygonal skaters, a redesigned ten-area campaign, and handheld-specific health, equipment, and multiplayer systems.
