Overview and Gameplay
Princess Genevieve enters the Golden Pavilion after Duchess Rowena hides her sisters and threatens the kingdom. Genevieve explores connected rooms, rescues each princess, and receives magical dancing shoes that open new routes. The adventure moves through castle chambers, outdoor grounds, stables, the clock tower, the Hall of Mirrors, and a final confrontation with Rowena.
Six shoe abilities support progression. Genevieve can catch or deflect threats with a butterfly net, cross marked pits on stilts, create ribbon paths, strike switches with a croquet ball, stack books for height or pressure plates, and sprint across collapsing bridges. Three optional mini-games—Butterfly Catch, Ribbon Race, and Book Challenge—can increase maximum life capacity during the story.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves Genevieve, enters doors, and steers jumps. A jumps, confirms choices, advances dialogue, and combines with Down to drop through suitable platforms. B activates the selected shoe ability. L lets Genevieve look around while standing still, R cycles through collected shoes, and Start pauses the game.
Hazards include animals, guards, falling objects, and magic attacks. Boss encounters use the available tools, such as reflecting projectiles with the net or launching croquet balls at targets. Easy mode provides unlimited lives, while Normal mode uses a limited stock shown as hearts. Picture-based passwords record progress.
Version Notes
The Game Boy Advance release is a dedicated 2D side-scrolling adaptation with its own stages, ability system, and handheld presentation.
