Overview and Gameplay
Black/Matrix Zero follows Cain, a wingless youth drawn into conflict after Matia is abducted. Its world is divided among white-winged angels, black-winged devils, and wingless humans ruled by the Prodevon Church. The campaign spans six chapters with story scenes, party preparation, and turn-based battles on isometric maps.
Up to eight allies can deploy where a battle permits a full team. Characters gain levels, equip weapon-specific gear, and develop through attributes such as strength, intelligence, vitality, dexterity, and movement. Story decisions lead to branching routes, while battle ranks can award bonus equipment after victory.
Controls And Mechanics
Each player phase allows units to move, attack targets within weapon range, cast magic, use items, and finish their turns in a chosen order. BP earned in battle powers magic and activates latent weapon abilities. These effects include elemental follow-up attacks, healing, knockback, extended range, counters, and temporary protection. Unspent BP carries into later battles.
Version Notes
This edition uses an unfinished English fan translation. Only a few menus are translated, while the story and most interface text remain in Japanese.
