Overview and Gameplay

Waterdeep faces attacks from monsters and criminals emerging from beneath the city. Piergeiron sends a party of adventurers into the sewers and catacombs to uncover the revived Xanathar’s Guild and stop its leader.

Exploration uses a first-person, step-based view across ten dungeon levels. The party searches for keys, switches, hidden passages, treasure, shops, healers, recruits, and routes to each exit. Four created or pre-generated heroes begin the campaign, while recruitable characters can expand the active group to six. Experience, equipment, feats, skills, class levels, and prepared spells shape each character’s development.

Controls And Mechanics

Dungeon encounters shift to an isometric battlefield with turn-based combat. Initiative determines acting order, and each character normally receives two actions for movement, attacks, spellcasting, or equipping an item. Positioning affects flanking, cover, ranged attacks, spell areas, and attacks of opportunity.

Fighters specialize in weapons and armor, clerics heal and turn undead, wizards prepare arcane spells, and rogues handle locks and traps. Hit points, ammunition, consumables, gold, prepared spells, and equipment must be managed between battles. Resting applies level gains, prepares selected spells, and saves progress.

Version Notes

This Game Boy Advance adaptation uses Dungeons & Dragons Third Edition-derived character rules and replaces the earlier title’s real-time fighting with separate isometric, turn-based battles.
