Overview and Gameplay
Mario Power Tennis follows Max or Tina through the Royal Tennis Academy. The chosen student trains with the other as a doubles partner, challenges ranked players, advances through Junior, Senior, and Varsity classes, and qualifies for the Island Open and Peach Tournament.
Matches and training award experience points that improve Power, Control, Side Spin, and Speed. Training Centre minigames unlock offensive and defensive Power Shots, while Exhibition Mode provides quick singles or doubles matches with academy competitors and Mario characters.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves the player and aims returns. A hits topspin, B hits slice, pressing both produces a flat shot, and ordered combinations create lobs or drop shots. Holding a shot button charges the return. L cancels a charge or performs a technical dive, while R displays the Power Shot gauge and activates equipped Power Shots.
Matches use standard tennis scoring through games and sets. Court surfaces alter ball speed and bounce. Linked systems support simultaneous singles and doubles for two to four players; partners may share one side against human or computer opponents.
