Overview and Gameplay
An amnesiac warrior becomes leader of the Shining Force after Runefaust attacks Guardiana. The campaign spans eight chapters as the party crosses Rune to stop Darksol from reviving the Dark Dragon.
Towns provide shops, repairs, treasure, recruiting opportunities, and headquarters for organizing a force of up to 12 deployed characters. Grid-based battles use movement ranges, terrain, weapon reach, magic, items, and visible turn order. Experience raises levels, while most characters can promote into stronger classes after level 10.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves through towns, positions units, controls the battle cursor, and navigates menus. A talks, searches, opens chests, confirms choices, and opens unit commands. B cancels selections and enables faster town movement when held with a direction. L or Start opens the menu, while R displays movement range and unit status.
Battle objectives include defeating all enemies, eliminating a commander, or reaching a destination. Terrain changes movement and damage reduction. If the Hero falls, the force returns to the abbey with earned experience intact but loses half its carried money.
Version Notes
This enhanced remake adds redrawn graphics, expanded dialogue, new characters, Princess Narsha interludes, collectible cards, turn-order display, timed battle rewards, and increasingly difficult New Game Plus runs.
