Overview and Gameplay
Shrek the Third follows Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots, and Artie as they gather Fairies for Merlin and travel toward Far Far Away. The campaign contains 20 side-scrolling levels arranged across four scrolls. Most stages include several characters, and progress depends on switching between their abilities to open routes, move objects, activate switches, collect required items, and reach the exit. Completing every available stage and collecting at least 10 Fairies unlocks the next scroll.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves, climbs, swings, aims Artie’s shield, and controls shield surfing. A jumps, while B performs character-specific attacks and interacts with objects. Shrek carries heavy objects and can unlock a shoulder charge. Puss uses sword attacks and climbs walls. Donkey kicks obstacles and can gain a glide. Artie throws his shield and later rides it across hazardous surfaces. L and R switch the active character, and holding both links nearby characters.
Health bubbles track damage, and health items restore one bubble. Keys open doors, while logs, mushrooms, shells, and springboards create paths through environmental puzzles. Falling into pits, water, or lava, or losing all health, restarts the level with unlimited continues. Merlin Items can be exchanged for abilities or power-ups.
Version Notes
The Game Boy Advance edition uses a 2D character-switching puzzle-platform format designed specifically for the handheld.
