Overview and Gameplay
Shrek 2 follows Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots, Gingerbread Man, and human-form Shrek through a handheld retelling of the film. The adventure contains five storybooks with five chapters each. Completing every chapter in a book unlocks the next set.
Each chapter assigns one to three characters. Progress depends on switching between them to defeat enemies, move objects, open paths, and reach the exit. Coins and hidden Leprechauns provide optional completion goals, while Leprechauns lead to character-specific bonus challenges with separate scores.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves the active character. A jumps, B performs the character’s attack or special action, and L or R switches the controlled party member. Holding both shoulder buttons directs all visible team members together. Select handles nearby magic power-ups, and Start pauses.
- Shrek: punches, body slams, and carries movable objects.
- Donkey: kicks enemies and objects.
- Puss in Boots: slashes, climbs walls, and moves along ropes.
- Gingerbread Man: throws candy canes in different directions.
Health is tracked separately for each required character. Losing the final health bubble restarts the chapter. Health pickups, shields, invisibility, temporary flight, and enemy-clearing magic help the team survive.
Version Notes
The Game Boy Advance edition uses a side-view, team-based puzzle-platform format created specifically for the handheld.
