Overview and Gameplay
Top Gear Rally sends drivers across 3D rally courses featuring dirt, gravel, mud, sand, wet roads, snow, hills, jumps, and roadside hazards. A co-driver announces approaching corners and obstacles while eight cars compete for position.
Championship mode contains Amateur, Professional, and Top Gear World Series leagues. Each race has three stages, with first, second, and third place awarding three, two, and one point. Strong results unlock additional cars, GT upgrades, colors, and courses.
Quick Race uses extended checkpoint courses. Time Attack records solo stage times and can display a saved best run as a ghost car. Practice mode allows unrestricted driving and course-marker placement.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad steers, A accelerates, and B brakes or reverses. Pressing A and B together initiates a drift. Manual transmission assigns downshifts to L and upshifts to R, while Select changes the camera and Start pauses the race.
Vehicle setup includes surface-specific tires, automatic or manual transmission, steering and brake sensitivity, exhaust selection, and short, normal, or long gear ratios. Cars differ in speed, acceleration, and suspension behavior.
Two-player mode supports simultaneous competitive races through a Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable, with each participant using a separate system and game cartridge.
