Overview and Gameplay
Yoshi Topsy-Turvy follows Yoshi after the spirit Hongo seals Bowser and Yoshi’s Island inside the Forbidden Pop-Up Book. Yoshi crosses its chapters, completes missions for the book’s spirits, earns Happiness Medals, and works toward a final battle with Bowser.
Courses consist of short connected pages with objectives such as collecting coins, eating apples, defeating enemies, avoiding enemies, or reaching the goal before time expires. Meeting a target awards a silver medal, while exceeding it earns gold. Medal totals open later chapters, and rescued Egglings fill a collection book that unlocks additional challenges.
Controls And Mechanics
The Control Pad moves Yoshi, A jumps and performs the Flutter Jump, and B extends his tongue to eat enemies or fruit. L and R turn pages in the Eggling Book, while Start opens the pause menu.
The cartridge’s tilt sensor changes gravity inside each stage. Tilting creates slopes, moves platforms and boulders, rotates machinery, and controls special forms such as Balloon Yoshi, Ship Yoshi, and Ball Yoshi. Yoshi has eight health points; hearts restore health, while losing all health costs a life.
Version Notes
The North American release uses the title Yoshi Topsy-Turvy. Europe and Australia released the same Game Boy Advance game as Yoshi’s Universal Gravitation.
