Overview and Gameplay
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Duel Academy follows a new student at Duel Academy who studies card rules, challenges classmates, and works toward the King of Games rank. A calendar organizes school days, appointments, exams, allowances, and special events. Duel victories award Duel Points for booster packs, while exam results and overall performance affect rank, dorm placement, unlocked opponents, and academy access.
Monthly exams include timed rule questions, preset duel puzzles, and practical matches with specific objectives. Deck building uses collected Monster, Spell, and Trap Cards, with support for Main, Side, and Fusion Decks.
Controls And Mechanics
Duels follow the phase-based Yu-Gi-Oh! card system. The player draws cards, summons monsters, sets or activates Spell and Trap Cards, attacks opposing monsters, and reduces the rival’s Life Points to zero. The directional pad moves through maps, cards, zones, and menus. A confirms commands, B cancels or opens the Phase Menu, R shows card details or changes the field view, and Start opens the PDA or duel submenu.
Two players can connect separate Game Boy Advance systems for competitive Single Duels or best-of-three Match Duels. Linked systems also support card trading.
