Overview and Gameplay

Lan Hikari and his NetNavi, MegaMan.EXE, investigate cyberattacks caused by the WWW organization. Each chapter moves between real-world locations and computer networks, where Lan gathers clues and MegaMan explores branching paths, solves device-specific problems, fights viruses, and confronts hostile NetNavis.

Progress comes from collecting Battle Chips, improving the 30-chip Folder, buying HP and armor upgrades, and strengthening the Mega Buster. The story is designed for one player, while a Game Link Cable supports chip trading and head-to-head Net Battles.

Controls And Mechanics

Battles take place on opposing grid territories. MegaMan moves between panels, fires the unlimited Mega Buster, and uses selected Battle Chips for attacks, recovery, movement, and panel effects. At the start of a turn, chips may be chosen when they share a name or letter code. The Battle Gauge refills in real time and reopens chip selection when full.

Enemy weaknesses can double elemental damage, and specific chip sequences activate Program Advances. Fast, efficient victories raise the Busting Level and improve Zenny or chip rewards. Mystery Data, shops, Chip Traders, and defeated enemies supply additional resources.

Two linked systems can exchange chips or enter Test Battles and Real Battles. Real Battle awards the winner one chip from the loser.
