Overview and Gameplay
Space Pirates breed stolen Metroids as biological weapons on Zebes. Samus Aran must explore the planet’s connected regions, defeat Kraid and Ridley, enter Tourian, destroy Mother Brain, and escape before time expires.
Progress depends on permanent upgrades hidden throughout the maze. Maru Mari opens narrow passages, Bombs break certain blocks, the Ice Beam freezes enemies into platforms, and the High Jump Boots reach elevated routes. Energy Tanks increase health, while Missile Rockets expand missile capacity and open reinforced gates.
Controls And Mechanics
Samus can run, jump, crouch into ball form after obtaining Maru Mari, aim upward, fire beams or missiles, and place bombs while curled up. Defeated enemies may drop energy or missile refills. Contact with enemies and environmental hazards drains energy, and reaching zero produces a game over.
Completion time affects the ending. The game uses passwords for continued progress instead of a conventional save-point system.
Version Notes
This Game Boy Advance release preserves the English NES game and stores generated continuation passwords in cartridge memory. It also includes a handheld system menu with reset and Sleep Mode functions.
